In the ocean of data, scientists often struggle in finding desired data efficiently. In the previous study, we have proposed MIQS - a self-contained metadata indexing and querying service which can address the metadata search in the context of self-describing data file collection, which potentially opens up a new era of metadata management. To embrace such an opportunity, we further investigate data and metadata discovery problem in general. In this talk, I will briefly review what we have accomplished in terms of metadata management and then discuss further studies needed to address scientific data discoverability challenges.
