Time and Location: 2/20/2019, Wed., 10:30 a.m., CS Conference Room 206 Speaker: Mr. Xi Wang Title: HAP: Hotspot-Aware Prefetcher for 3D-Stacked Memory Abstract: Driven by the ever-growing need of the bandwidth, 3D-stacked memory devices such as High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) are introduced for data-intensive algorithms and applications, and provide significantly higher throughput compared with the conventional JEDEC DDR devices. However, given the high-degree of the data-level parallelism in data-intensive workloads and reduced row-buffer size in the 3D-stacked memory, high row-buffer miss rate potentially causes the performance degradation of the memory system. Therefore, we introduce a hotspot-aware prefetcher (HAP) for the 3D-stacked memory devices that improves the bandwidth utilization, energy consumption, higher accuracy and better applicability compared with the conventional prefetching methodologies. In this talk, I will present the design, implementation and initial results, as well as the insights of the memory hotspot management.
